The Gray Banded Kingsnake, Lampropeltis mexicana alterna, is a medium-sized
colubrid snake. The variation in coloration between specimens caused confusion in classifying this snake. Shown on this sign is a specimen with the color
morphology known as “Light Blairs Phase.” This snake has been collected in nine counties of the Trans-Pecos, and Edwards County, Texas; additional specimens
are known from the state of Coahuila in Mexico. It is a secretive, primarily nocturnal snake. Their favorite prey in the wild are lizards, with the one on the
sign watching a whiptail lizard. In captivity, although they prefer lizards, they will usually accept mice. The sign from BrandyDesigns is shown here as a Snake
Room sign, but it can also be made as a Welcome sign - just let me know on the order form.
